DELAWARE'S VOICE FOR RAIL PASSENGERS
DELMARVA RAIL PASSENGERS ASSOCIATION
For decades, rail passengers and advocates have looked to the DRPA
as a voice for a fully integrated passenger rail transportation
system for all of the DelMarVa Peninsula.
The association contributed significantly to the restoration of
SEPTA commuter service between Wilmington and Philadelphia in 1989.
Subsequently, DRPA advocated for expanded SEPTA services to
Claymont, Churchman's Crossing and Newark; more service during
off-hours, Sunday service and improved stations in Delaware. Many of
these improvements were adopted by SEPTA and the Delaware Transit
Corporation.
For 13 years, DRPA co-sponsored Delaware Transit Corporation's "Rail
to the Fair", a family excursion train between Claymont, Wilmington,
Newark, Middletown and the Delaware State Fair in Harrington.
DRPA consistently supports annual Amtrak appropriations before the
U.S. Congress. The association's annual holiday dinners hosted state
and national rail advocates such as Tom Downs, past president of
Amtrak, U.S. Senator Tom Carper, and former DelDOT Secretary Anne
Canby.
